Honic secures funding to expand Health Data Research Platform
Neckarsulm, 14 December 2023:
Good news for scientists: the Honic research platform for real-world medical data can continue to grow following the completion of a funding round. The platform, which was developed in collaboration with the German data protection authority and patient representatives, was launched in autumn 2022 and has since successfully completed its first research projects with universities and international life science companies. Together with exclusively German partners such as Bundesdruckerei as data trustee, the IT security company Secunet and the cloud provider StackIT, Honic guarantees a fully sovereign solution with its data platform.
The existing investors, Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures (DvH Ventures), adesso Ventures and Isartal Ventures have been joined by Holland Capital, a German-Dutch venture capital fund specialising in European healthcare technology.
"With this investment, we will further expand the Honic data infrastructure for research and play a leading role in the emerging European Health Data Space (EHDS) in Europe. In recent months, we have demonstrated that the Honic platform can meet the expectations of the scientific community in terms of the availability of medical data from standard care. Now it's time to scale up, while maintaining the highest levels of privacy and security,"
Alongside Dr Henrik Matthies, Nora Sagel has joined the Honic management team. She has played a key role in shaping the development of the platform since it was founded and has been instrumental in realising the first projects in recent months.
"Honic is unique in the European health tech scene in that it has been able to develop a data infrastructure that is compliant with data protection regulations and allows for large-scale, cross-silo research. On this basis, cutting-edge medical research is once again possible in the European Union."
"Holland Capital strengthens Honic's mission to expand science in Germany and Europe. In addition to the financial investment, the Holland Capital team also supports us with experience and expertise. I am delighted that we have been able to attract internationally renowned experts such as Harm-Jan Wessels and Achim Plückebaum to the Honic Advisory Board."
Neckarsulm-based Honic has developed a secure, sovereign data room for medical research based exclusively on German technology and German partners. In addition to GDPR-compliant storage and processing, the dedicated platform for medical data enables cross-silo combination of medical care data with the help of data trust and encryption technologies. The GDPR-compliant provision of data in anonymised form enables in-depth research and development by third parties.
